Labels and Memberships

By purchasing certified coffee, we can significantly reduce the risk of harming human rights as well as environmental and governance risks along the value chain. Certification systems such as those of the Rainforest Alliance (RFA), Fairtrade or Bio (organic) have standards that clearly define social, environmental and corporate governance requirements for every player along the value chain. The traceability of the coffee and support measures for local producers are guaranteed. The annual independent audits - carried out by accredited certification organizations - ensure that we and our suppliers comply with the prescribed standards of the respective certification system.

 

 

FAIRTRADE Max Havelaar

In 2023, we purchased around 1'200 tons of Fairtrade-certified coffee. The label stands for coffee that has been traded fairly and produced according to comprehensive social and environmental criteria. This includes long-term trading relationships, a minimum price and a Fairtrade premium. The Fairtrade premiums are used by the cooperatives to implement various projects to support the coffee farmers in a wide range of areas such as education, health and environmentally friendly cultivation. Thanks to the fair trading conditions, the farmers and workers can invest in a sustainable future. Blaser Trading has been selling Fairtrade-certified coffees for many years.

Rainforest Alliance

In 2023, we purchased over 8'000 tons of RFA-certified coffee. By far the largest proportion of the RFA coffee we purchased came from Brazil, followed by India, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Colombia, Vietnam and Ethiopia. The "RFA 2020 Certification Standard" is divided into comprehensive requirements for a product; on the one hand for those involved in the supply chain and on the other hand for those involved at the farm level. In addition to ecologically and socially sustainable cultivation conditions, the overarching aim is to ensure responsible business practices throughout the entire supply chain. As a buyer of RFA-certified coffee, we pay the producers a so-called "sustainability differential" and "sustainability investment". This mechanism is designed to ensure more appropriate coffee prices.

Bio (organic)

In 2023, we purchased over 125 tons of organically grown coffee. No synthetic chemical pesticides or fertilizers are used in organic coffee cultivation. This massively reduces any potential negative impact on the environment, but also on people.

CSC Caffè Speciali Certificati

In 2007, we were the first Swiss company to be accepted into the Italian organization Caffè Speciali Certificati (CSC) with its extremely strict quality criteria. The Rosso & Nero espresso blend sold by Blasercafé meets all the criteria and proudly bears the CSC label.

The 12-member team of the German Coffee Association is committed and competent in promoting the favorite drink coffee. The team consists of specialists and all-rounders with different backgrounds and experiences who are united by their passion for coffee. The DKV is an important and relevant source and exchange platform for us, particularly with regard to our commitment to sustainability.

Procafé is the association for the promotion of coffee consumption. All member companies process, trade or market coffee or coffee products. As a member of Procafé, we also do public relations work on the subject of coffee and inform the public about the various aspects of coffee.

European Coffee Federation (ECF)

The European Coffee Federation is the single voice of the European coffee trade and industry, facilitating the development of an environment in which the industry can meet the needs of consumers and society, while competing effectively to ensure the resilience and long-term sustainability of the coffee supply chain, from farm to cup. Established in 1981, ECF represents the interests of the European green coffee traders, roasted and soluble coffee manufacturers, decaffeinators, coffeehouses and warehousekeepers.

Swiss Sustainable Coffee Platform SSCP

The SSCP is a multi-stakeholder initiative launched on June 6, 2024 by the Swiss coffee industry, the Swiss government, represented by the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), civil society and academia. The vision of the platform is to create a coffee industry that respects the rights of all individuals, protects the climate and the environment and ensures sustainable sourcing, leading to improved living conditions for producers and their families. Our membership in the SSCP provides access to shared resources, know-how and best practices while strengthening leverage to address challenges such as climate change and living incomes. Blaser Trading has been an active member of the SSCP from the very beginning.

Switzerland is one of the largest trading centers for green coffee. The more than 40 active members of the SCTA represent a volume of more than 50% of global coffee exports. The SCTA represents the interests of green coffee traders in Switzerland, but is also well networked globally and nationally with other associations and institutions.
